Leadership team coaching

A leadership team is rarely as united as it thinks.

Coaching for a leadership team that wants to make better decisions together, deal with disagreements at the table and take the strategy into the organisation so that it is understood the same way. In the Helsinki region, at your premises or remotely.

When does a leadership team need coaching?

Usually when every member does their job well, but the decisions made together don't move forward.

Decisions stay open

An issue is discussed, everyone nods, and a month later it is back on the agenda. Often the reason is that everyone understood the decision in their own way.

Disagreement moves to the corridor

In the meeting everyone agrees, and the objections are only heard over coffee. We practise bringing disagreement out where the decision is made.

The strategy doesn't get through

Staff hear as many versions of the strategy as there are members on the leadership team, because everyone tells it in their own words and stresses different things.

A new line-up

New members or a new CEO have joined the leadership team. The shared way of working has to be built again.

Pressure rises

A crisis or redundancy negotiations speed things up. Under pressure the leadership team starts deciding by reflex and the old way.

How the work is done

First I listen, then we practise.

I start by interviewing each member for an hour. In addition, the leadership team and a sample of staff take a priority test where everyone writes down the three things they think matter most in the company right now. The answers show how much the leadership team's and the staff's answers have in common.

From the interviews I hear how this leadership team thinks. Who needs the big picture first and who needs the details? Who moves towards opportunities and who away from risks? What criteria does each person use to judge options? That becomes the leadership team's thinking map.

Then we practise using your own strategy and the decisions and disputes that are on the table right now. If you like, I also sit in on a few ordinary leadership team meetings.

Measurement

Shared direction shows in the numbers.

The priority test is done at the start and at the end, for both the leadership team and the organisation. The result is a single number: how many of the answers are shared. Alongside it we ask whether people understand the leadership's messages and whether disagreements are dealt with openly.

If the assessment doesn't give you a usable direction, you don't pay for it.

It's not only that Ilkka is in the world's top five among experts and trainers of the mind. It's how his very broad, systemic approach gets significant results with serious business decision-makers who have already tried every possible coaching and leadership model. (Translated from Finnish.)

Frequently asked about leadership team coaching.

How much does leadership team coaching cost?
The pressure exercise is from €6,500, the AI and the leadership team programme from €9,500 and the Leading Thinking leadership team programme from €24,900 (excluding VAT). The price of ongoing sparring is agreed separately.
How long does leadership team coaching take?
The pressure exercise takes half a day. The programmes take two to six months.
What is the difference between leadership team coaching and executive coaching?
In leadership team coaching the whole team works together. Executive coaching is one-to-one coaching for one leader. They work well together, and the leadership team programme includes personal sparring for each member.
Are personality tests used in the assessment?
No. The assessment is based on interviews, observation and the priority test. Language analysis can be used if every member gives permission. The results are never used for recruitment or individual evaluation.
Can the coaching be linked to a strategy process?
Yes, and that is often a good moment. The third workshop of the leadership team programme deals with the strategy message for different groups, and the messages are tested with small groups before they go out.
